Cattle are raised locally in Western Nevada and Eastern California on rangeland and pastures, grazing public lands including the Pinenut Mountain Range and Sweetwater Mountain Range. Gabilan Cattle Company is a family owned and operated cow-calf operation set upon 11,000 acres in Monterey and San Benito Counties in central coastal California. The land was purchased in 1929 by Rollin Reeves and has been in the Reeves/Baldocchi/Boyle family ever since, with the cattle operation running since 1980. The company practices conservation ranching and adaptive grazing to maintain healthy grassland ecosystems, and in 2006 entered a non-developmental conservation easement with The Nature Conservancy.
