Drewry's World Container Index rose 1 percent to $4,297 per 40-foot container in the week ending August 6, 2026, ending three consecutive weeks of decline. Higher spot rates on Transpacific trade routes drove the increase. [1]

Shanghai to New York rates rose 4 percent to $7,893 per 40-foot container, and Shanghai to Los Angeles rates rose 3 percent to $5,894. On Asia-Europe, Shanghai to Genoa rates fell 2 percent to $5,506, while Shanghai to Rotterdam rates held at $4,653. [1]

Drewry attributed the gain to carriers implementing general rate increases as volumes held firm into August, and to port congestion across central and south China constraining capacity. Eight blank sailings are scheduled for the coming week, unchanged from this week, and Drewry stated that it expects rate volatility to reduce in the coming week. [1]
